A Quick Update

Hello friends! I hope everyone had a fabulous February and that lots of love was spread your way during the month that celebrates love.

The picture above is the flower bouquet that Charles gave me for Valentine's Day. Husband also gave me a beautiful ring, but I'm not showing that picture for fear some of you ladies may kidnap him. :-)

It's been a quiet time on our website for the past two weeks. I want to assure you that everything is fine and I will be back to writing here again very soon.

"The priorities of our life will determine the destiny of our life."

Those words were written by me in my second-ever column entitled "What is Your Vision." The main point of the article was: "It is not enough just to say what the priorities of your life are. You need your actions to be in harmony and consistent with your values."

Living my values is something that I have been doing these past weeks as I've been assisting Charles in expanding his very successful business into New Jersey. He has needed my help, and since he is my second priority (the first being God) I very willingly have spent all my time helping him.

It is a goal of mine to not be so over-scheduled that I feel overwhelm. To do this, I've had to learn a lot of lessons, and one of the most important of those is learning how to say no.

For a bit more time, I need to focus all my time on Husband and the family business. I will be back to writing daily weekday posts again sometime next week.

Until then, I send you love and best wishes for a beautiful beginning to March, and I thank you for your patience and understanding.

My brother Jonny and I first experienced the death of a family member when we were in high school. He was a freshman and I was a senior when our father's beloved sister, Dee, transitioned from earth into heaven.

Book Review: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

Every Wednesday on CHONJ, I attempt to best provide solutions to a challenge one of my dear reader friends is having. I've received a significant amount of emails from friends with goals to become neater, have a less cluttered home, and to downsize their belongings. This week, as an answer to that collective Reader Challenge, I'll be discussing a book that provides solutions to all those dilemmas.

Although it was published in 2014, I have finally read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up:...

Black History Month Tribute: The First American Female Millionaire

February is Black History Month! To do my part in providing a tribute, every Tuesday this month I will be sharing inspirational stories about an African-American who is not commonly known, in the hope that their remarkable lives will be a source of encouragement to you.

Let us begin with the lovely lady pictured above, whose image was placed on United States postal stamps in 1998: Madam C.J. Walker.

Madam Walker's story is truly a rags-to-riches tale. Her parents were slaves who had just been...

Be Happy With What You Have

Over the last couple of days I've heard from several people how frustrated they are because they weren't able to stick to their New Year's resolution for the month of January. To this I have three encouragements.

First, perhaps it's time for what I call a Resolution Evolution. It's perfectly fine to allow your resolution to evolve into something else rather than what you originally intended. Many times when we alter our goals, they end up being even better.

Second, let us all be gentle on...
