Be Happy With What You Have

Over the last couple of days I've heard from several people how frustrated they are because they weren't able to stick to their New Year's resolution for the month of January. To this I have three encouragements.

First, perhaps it's time for what I call a Resolution Evolution. It's perfectly fine to allow your resolution to evolve into something else rather than what you originally intended. Many times when we alter our goals, they end up being even better.

Second, let us all be gentle on ourselves. We are human and trying to do the best we can. We are going to backslide, so let us help each other along with inspiration and support.

Third, there are always new beginnings. Today is the start of a brand new month. If you were unable to achieve the goal you had for January, begin again on February 1st. 

Always be happy with the progress you are able to achieve, however small it is, because it's still a step in the direction you want to go. Most of all, be content right now with where you are and what you have.

In the words of the inestimable Oprah: "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."

Love yourself for who you are today, even as you choose to improve yourself for tomorrow.
